ITH held the International Trade and Health (ITH) Conference 2018 under the theme of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and health

 

The fifth ITH annual conference successfully took place on 15-16 November 2018 in Bangkok hosted by the National Commission on International Trade and Health Studies (NCITHS), International Trade and Health Programme (ITH), and partners.

Under the theme of “Belt and Road Initiative: Opportunity and Challenges for Health”, around 150 national and international experts from various disciplines shared the cutting-edge knowledge on the China’s economic and geopolitical initiative involving over 70 countries and discussed its potential impacts on health and health systems in Thailand, as well as regionally and globally.  Evidence-based policy recommendations on the BRI and health including shift from bilateral to multilateral collaboration to enhance transparency and predictability, independent analysis to monitor the impacts from BRI constructions on health and environment and independent monitoring, and strengthening the role of the Thai government in health innovation to provide guidance and facilitate the work of private sector were developed at the conclusion of the conference.
