Stay tuned for updates from the Second Consultative Meeting on policy, financing and service delivery issues, and the latest in the Conference Series on Migrant Health in the Mekong Region. Held at the Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa in Thailand, June 24th – 27th, this meeting is the follow-up to the First Consultative meeting held in March of this year.
On March 23rd – 26th, 2014 delegates from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, and other partners met in Mandalay, Myanmar to discuss the first steps towards ensuring international migrants have improved and equitable access to needed healthcare, and are protected against financial ruin when using health services. It was determined that achieving this long-term goal will require multi-sectoral actions by public security, immigration, health, labor, social security, civil society and private employer constituencies. Furthermore, close collaboration among agencies responsible for migrants’ health in host and sending countries is essential.
The Second Consultative Meeting will address these issues and produce an operational plan for specific cross-border and in-country actions in the policy, financing, and health service delivery areas.
