The First Steering Committee Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three UHC Network

The First Steering Committee Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three UHC Network was convened at Sampran Riverside, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand on 21-22 April 2014. The objectives of this meeting are to ensure a common understanding

on the TOR of the ASEAN Plus Three UHC Network among the delegates of the meeting, including selection of the Chair and the Secretariat of the Network and to discuss and agree on an action plan of the ASEAN plus three UHC network for being as a platform to support and accelerate progresses towards well functioning and sustainable UHC in countries and advancing the regional and global UHC agenda.

There were 48 participants participated the meeting who were from the delegates of each Member States of the ASEAN Plus Three, responsible officers or researchers on UHC in ASEAN and other Asian countries as invited by Ministry of Public Health, Thailand (MOPH), ASEAN Secretariat and representatives from WHO-Thailand, World Bank, and USAID.
The Meeting went well with active participation of all participants. Highlighted gained from the Meeting that will serve as a basement for ASEAN Plus Three UHC Network are:-
The Steering Committee of the Network has been established. Dr Winai Sawasdivorn from Thailand is the Chair of the Steering Committee and CapUHC serves as the Network Secretariat.
With contribution of all participants, the action plan of the Network was produced and agreed by the Steering Committee. There are a total of 10 activities under 4 categories of normative works, capacity development, UHC advocacy and network governance.
The most tangible activities during the first six months of the Network (May-Oct 2014) are:-
Convening side meeting and exhibition at the 67th WHA, May 2014, where UHC baseline would be analyzed. The Side Meeting at the 67th WHA is the first activity of the Network which will be held on Tuesday 20th May 2014, 18.00-19.30 at Room XVI, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.
Reporting SOMHD in June 2014 on the progress of the Network, including UHC baseline data
Inserting a paragraph in the upcoming APTHMM Sep 2014 Hanoi Joint Statement for advocating UHC as one of the key post- 2015 sustainable development goals
Conducting survey on capacity gaps, expertise in the region
