MAIN CONFERNCE ON 30TH January 2014 : PMAC

Thursday 30th January 2014, the fourth day of the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC). Dr. Walaiporn Patcharanarumol is a rapporteur coordinator of PMAC and Senior Researcher of IHPP. She has appointed rapporteur team to debrief for all session from yesterday.

The meeting received a good attention by IHPP staff, Lecturers from Mahidol University and from Praboromarajchanok Institute of Health Workforce Development etc. First session begun with Opening session and Keynote Address then followed by Transformative Learning for Health Equity: Working beyond Customaries/Breaking Down the Boundaries / Opening New Possibilities (PL1) until Ensuring Community Engagement in Health Professional Education (PS2.7). After Dr. Walaiporn invited rapporteur who responsible for each session to share those information, identify what they learn from this session and experience among national participants. In order to fulfill knowledge and understand all background for TRANAFORMATIVE LEARNING FOR HEALTH EQUITY. The whole session spent 1.30 hrs until last session finished.

Later, she is an active co lead on parallel session 4.4 “STRENGTHENING RESPONSIVE HEALTH WORKFORCE: THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVEATE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION INSTITUTES”. Also this session gained more in-depth understanding from country experiences on public-private educational institutions for health personnel to strengthen human resources for health of the country, especially in the context of moving closer to UHC.

During plenary session 3, The topic is “ACHIEVING UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: ADDRESSING HEALTH WORKFORCE HEALTH WORKFORCE INEQUITY”. The objectives aimed to review inequity in health workforce distributions and its consequences on inequitable of key services in particular maternal and child health; and inequity in term of recruitment of students from rural, ethnic minority and low income family into health professional education. Subsequently, to recommend practical steps in minimize maldistribution gap and inequity in recruitment students from disadvantage groups of society to health professional education to sever their hometown.

As a speaker, Dr. Weerasak Putthasri ( Senior Researcher of IHPP) presented on the topic as “MAPPING OF POLICY INTERVENTIONS IN SIX ASIAN COUNTRIES TO MINIMIZE INEQUITY OF HEALTH WORKFORCE DISTRIBUTION FOCUSING ON HEALTH

The afternoon session in this conference, The parallel session 3.7 “SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY: FRICTIONS AND COHESION BETWEEN HEALTH PROFESSIONAL COUNCILS, ASSOCIATIONS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS” was got a chance to warm welcome Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert is currently Vice chair of IHPF and Dr. Viroj Tangcharoensathien (Senior Advisor) were interested on this topic and have been extensively involved in this session whereas this session have 5 panelists who are expertise of Human resources for Health. Thai team rapporteurs are Dr.Jaratdao and Dr.Angkana to be involved. The key message was following issues:WORKFORCE EDUCATION” Global policy recommendations are to increasing access to health workers in remote and rural areas through improved retention.
